Images need context too
Learning goal: Explain why an authentic photograph may still be used misleadingly.
A real photo can be old, cropped or shared with a new caption that claims it shows something else. Whether an image is edited and whether its description is accurate are separate questions.
Look for the original publication, date, photographer or location when available. Compare it with reliable reporting. A reverse-image lookup can sometimes help, but absence of results does not prove a caption is true.
Be particularly careful before spreading images that identify vulnerable people. Consider privacy, consent and possible harm even when the image appears authentic.
Practice
Take a public, non-sensitive image with a caption. Write down which facts you would need to confirm its time and place.
Do this privately, in a notebook or on your own device. Nothing you write is collected by this site.
